What is a reception robot?
Reception robots handle reception duties—such as greeting visitors, inquiring about their business, routing them to destinations, and guiding them through facilities—either in place of staff or alongside them. They are broadly divided into tablet-style reception terminals operated solely via touchscreen and communication robots that converse through voice. Kebbi 3, provided by NUWA in Japan, belongs to the latter category and attends to visitors through a combination of voice, facial expressions, gestures, and touch interactions.
Even within reception operations, required responses differ between locations where visitors already know their destination (office visitor routing) and locations with many first-time visitors (commercial facilities, public venues, exhibitions). The former centers on fast routing, while the latter focuses on clear guidance to prevent visitors from getting lost.
Tasks suitable and unsuitable for reception robots
- Suitable: Routine reception and routing, facility and equipment guidance, answering frequently asked questions, primary response outside business hours or when staff are unavailable, and multilingual guidance.
- Unsuitable: Negotiations, credit decisions, and contract responses that require case-by-case judgment; statutory identity verification itself; and physical escorting or transport (handled by mobile robots such as Collibot).

Implementation Steps
- Determine the installation location and the scope of duties to delegate (reception only / up to facility guidance / up to Collibot integration).
- Create dialogue and task flows in Roflow. No programming is required.

- Identify hard-to-hear words and questions without prepared answers during trial operations, and update Roflow.

Criteria for determining whether it can be used in a noisy lobby
The success of a reception robot largely depends on whether it can pick up the visitor's voice under lobby noise. The relevant specifications for Kebbi 3 are as follows.
- Voice capture: Combines a 4-microphone digital array with AIVC (smart noise canceling), beamforming, and sound source localization to focus on the speaker's voice amid ambient noise.
- Installation: Desktop model weighing 2.5 kg, placed on a reception counter for use. Since the 7-inch touchscreen can be used simultaneously, words that are difficult to catch can be selected on screen.
- Operating time: 7–8 hours of standard operation (varies depending on operating conditions). For all-day reception operations, installing it while connected to a continuous power supply provides stability.
